The Trials & Test Group at AWE is seeking an Engineer with an electrical or electronic background. The selected candidate will be part of a multi-disciplinary team responsible for operating and maintaining a high voltage pulsed power system. The Pulsed Power team oversees the operation of 14 Capacitor Bank Modules that amplify the laser to its 1-petawatt output.
This position offers a great opportunity for those interested in diagnosing faults and improving the design of high voltage and/or mechatronic systems. While knowledge of Pulsed Power is not mandatory as comprehensive training will be provided, familiarity with High Voltage will be advantageous.
Key responsibilities of the role include contributing to the production and delivery of technical reports and presentations, delivering projects from concept to realization, developing and implementing new methods of working, supporting the progress of designs through the product lifecycle, and understanding the hazards and risks associated with any work conducted.
Ideal candidates would have an HNC or equivalent in an engineering discipline or proven experience in a similar environment. Strong communication skills are essential, as is a willingness to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearance for the role.
