The National University of Singapore (NUS) is on a quest to find a proficient Research Engineer to join its Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) Department. The selected candidate will be instrumental in advancing the department’s ongoing research initiatives, specifically focusing on the thermal management of flexible electronics. This is a golden opportunity for those who are passionate about electronics, computers, and have a knack for solving complex problems using programming languages and coding.
As a Research Engineer, the incumbent will be responsible for designing and manufacturing flexible electronic devices. The primary challenge to overcome will be to address the issues related to overheating and heat dissipation in these devices. The role demands innovative thinking and a problem-solving approach to develop effective thermal management materials, structures, and methodologies.
The Research Engineer will also be expected to conduct thorough thermal simulations to identify potential thermal issues and enhance the heat dissipation capabilities of the devices. They will also be tasked with exploring and assessing new materials for efficient heat transfer, storage, and dissipation in flexible electronic devices.
The role extends beyond individual work and requires active collaboration with an interdisciplinary team. The Research Engineer will need to work closely with other team members to integrate thermal management solutions into the overall device design and manufacturing process. Additionally, they will be required to carry out experimental characterization of thermal properties and performance of flexible electronic devices using suitable measurement techniques and equipment, such as IR thermal imaging and thermal reflectance systems.
The NUS offers a competitive salary that matches qualifications and experience. The Research Engineer will also have access to a stimulating research environment and state-of-the-art facilities. This is a full-time position with an initial contract duration of 12 months, which can be extended based on performance and availability of funding.
Interested candidates can apply by sending their application materials, including a cover letter and curriculum vitae, to [email protected]. The review of applications will start immediately and continue until the position is filled.
The ideal candidate should fulfill at least four criteria from the following list:
• Hold a Bachelor’s/Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science, or a related field with a focus on flexible electronics and thermal management.
• Be proficient in using thermal simulation software for analyzing and optimizing thermal performance.
• Have knowledge of thermal management techniques and strategies for flexible electronics, including heat dissipation mechanisms and materials.
• Have experience in developing and characterizing novel materials for heat transfer, storage, and dissipation in electronic devices.
• Be familiar with experimental techniques for thermal characterization, such as thermal imaging and thermal reflectance.
• Possess strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically about thermal management challenges in flexible electronics.
• Have excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present research findings effectively.
The position is based at the Kent Ridge Campus in the College of Design and Engineering’s Electrical and Computer Engineering Department. The job requisition ID is 20888.
