In a significant move that underscores its commitment to advancing research in optical wireless communications, New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) is seeking to hire a Research Engineer. The position is within the Communication Theory and Technologies (CT&T) Research Group, a subdivision of the Division of Engineering at NYUAD.
The chosen candidate will play a critical role in supporting experimental research activities in the burgeoning field of optical wireless communications. This involves the development of hardware for optical wireless testbeds and the prototyping of communication systems. The work will encompass various aspects such as optics, electronics, software, firmware, and mechanical sub-assemblies.
The Research Engineer will also provide hardware design support for the experimental research activities of post-doctoral associates and graduate students. This will include tasks like electro-optical system setup and analog electronic design. Additionally, the individual will manage lab inventory and maintain the research group’s website.
The ideal candidate for this position should have either an MSc degree in electrical/electronics engineering, optics, photonics, physics or a related field with at least two years of experience in a similar laboratory setting. Alternatively, a PhD degree with applied research experience in a similar laboratory setting would also be acceptable.
A strong background in the development of optical systems is essential, with a comprehensive understanding of lasers, LEDs, photodiodes, PMTs, SPDs, and other optical components. The ability to use various electronic and optical measurement equipment such as oscilloscopes, signal generators, spectrum analyzers, optical power meters, optical spectrum analyzers, and beam shape analyzers is also crucial. Experience with free space optics and visible light communication or fiber optic communication is highly desirable.
The position is set to begin on September 01, 2023, and the contract is renewable depending on performance. The successful candidate will be based at NYUAD and must be willing to relocate to Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
