IRON MOUNTAIN, Mich. – Dickinson County Library will be buzzing with life next Wednesday as it gears up to host the much-anticipated Robot Rally. The event, designed for people across all age groups, is aimed at promoting the understanding and appreciation of robotics and the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines.
The Robot Rally will showcase a range of robotics teams from the surrounding regions, including Kingsford, Calumet, Carney-Nadeau, and Gladstone. These teams will be on-site to provide demonstrations, offering a unique opportunity for attendees to witness the practical applications of robotics.
Emma Marotz, a senior at Kingsford High School, serves as the social media and events coordinator for the Robot Rally. She shared that the driving force behind organizing this event was to highlight how First Robotics has positively influenced countless high school students and recent graduates.
Marotz fondly recalls her initial foray into robotics in seventh grade. “I never imagined I’d find it so captivating,” she said. “Now, it’s not just a hobby; it’s my passion and potentially my future career path. I’m considering pursuing mechanical engineering, all thanks to First Robotics and the incredible individuals I’ve had the privilege to meet through it.”
In addition to promoting STEM fields, Marotz emphasized the diverse career opportunities it offers. “STEM is not just about engineering or computers,” she explained. “There’s a broad spectrum of careers within STEM. You might find your niche in computer science or perhaps you’re more inclined towards public relations or marketing. The possibilities are endless and there are numerous skills you can develop and master.”
The Robot Rally is scheduled to take place from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on August 2 at the Dickinson County Library. Admission is free of charge, and everyone is welcome to join in this celebration of robotics and STEM learning.
Marotz expressed her gratitude towards the event sponsors – System Control, Boss Snowplow, Grede, and C.J. Graphics – without whom this event wouldn’t have been possible. “Their generous support has been instrumental in bringing this event to life,” she acknowledged.
The Robot Rally promises to be an engaging and educational experience for all attendees. Whether you’re interested in electronics, fascinated by programming languages, or simply curious about coding and robotics, this event offers something for everyone. It’s not just an opportunity to learn about robotics and STEM but also a chance to explore potential career paths and meet like-minded individuals.
So mark your calendars for next Wednesday and join us at the Dickinson County Library for an afternoon of fun and learning at the Robot Rally. It’s an event you won’t want to miss!
