Spirit Electronics Expands Services With Insight Analytical Labs Acquisition

In a move aimed at enhancing its service offerings, Spirit Electronics has successfully acquired Insight Analytical Labs, a well-known provider of device analysis services.

This acquisition will enable Spirit Electronics to expand its existing full-turnkey semiconductor supply chain services by incorporating destructive physical analysis (DPA) services.

Insight Analytical Labs, based in Colorado Springs, Colorado, will now be integrated into the Spirit Electronics family, with all its team members, operations, and assets becoming part of the larger entity.

Marti McCurdy, CEO of Spirit Electronics, expressed her excitement about the acquisition. “This acquisition allows us to offer device analysis services that can lead to significant improvements in process efficiency and yield, as well as enhanced design for manufacturability. The team from Insight Analytical brings a wealth of experience and well-established processes that will provide our customers with shorter lead times and improved supply chain security for these highly sought-after services.”

For the past three decades, Insight Analytical Labs has been a leading provider of electronics analytical services. Their offerings include DPA, failure analysis, reverse engineering, and intellectual property litigation support. Spirit Electronics plans to utilize DPA to offer construction analysis, which involves a detailed internal inspection of an electronic component to identify production defects.

This service is particularly crucial for aerospace and defense programs, which require DPA to prevent component failures in high-reliability applications.

The DPA lab operations will continue to be maintained and operated in Colorado Springs by Spirit Electronics. Plans are underway to get the new facility in Colorado Springs qualified under the Spirit Electronics quality management system and lab suitability. An invitation for customer site audits and qualification will be announced in due course.

McCurdy further elaborated on what customers can expect post-acquisition. “DPA test operations will continue as usual. In addition, we will introduce our automation, ERP system, cybersecurity measures, and quality program that have helped us earn our reputation as a trusted distributor and value-added business in the industry,” she said. “We will continue managing our distribution, MIL-STD-883 testing, and circuit card assembly from our headquarters in Phoenix, AZ. We are thrilled about our expansion to Colorado, which presents growing opportunities in defense and the commercial space industry.”

Spirit Electronics is a value-added distributor that offers authorized distribution of electronic components, MIL-STD-883 testing, circuit card assembly and ASIC services. The company’s supply chain solutions are redefining distribution by providing full-turnkey semiconductor services that deliver fully qualified and ready-to-use products to aerospace and defense customers.

As a veteran-owned, woman-owned small business (VOWOSB) with HUBZone certification, Spirit Electronics has been headquartered in Phoenix, AZ since 1979.
